The Different Types Of Thermoform Packaging

by Lenna Stockwell

There is a big and progressive industry committed to creating plastic packaging materials. Nowadays, there are a lot of thermoforming enterprises that are producing a wide array of packaging materials, such as the ones used to hold our medicine, food and other products that we buy and use.

It is essential to have a good knowledge about thermoforming. Basically, thermoforming is a series of actions in which a plastic sheet is heated to a distinct temperature, and shaped into a package through vacuum molding or perhaps injection molding. For the most part, thermoform sheets of plastic used in this process are quite thin and highly malleable when they are applied with heat.

Thermoform plastics are available in many different types, and each of them can be reused and recycled. As a matter of fact, after a plastic material has been transformed into a mold, any excess plastic can be clipped, melted and molded into a new plastic sheet. The most common types of thermoplastic used in packaging include PVC, polyethylene, nylon and acrylic.

Thermoforming companies are now creating customized and personalized thermoform and plastic packaging trays to accommodate all their client's specifications and packaging needs. One of the most popular and common package types is the clamshell package. In many instances, these packages are used as storage bins for cherry tomatoes, berries and other small fruits and vegetables. Besides fruits, they are also used to protect small electronic gadgets like a flashlight, USB cables, and cellular phones. Since these packaging materials open much like a clam would, they are most often called clamshell packages.

Another common service provided by a thermoforming company would be the creation of blister packs. There are many different products that use blister packaging. Many medicines are placed in a blister package, which is a combination of plastic and foil. Blister packs also hold batteries, pens, toothbrushes and thousands of other commercial products. The differences between the blister pack and the clamshell is that the clamshell folds onto itself.

There are an awful lot of other packaging products that a thermoforming manufacturer can offer to its clients, such as food storage containers and plastic trays. In every industry, there is a need for using thermoformed plastics, and a thermoforming company like Indepak can provide specialized and customized high-grade plastic products to its customers.
