If you are thinking about being part of an offshore marine career, you may want to think it very carefully first because this career is truly among the most dangerous and risky ones you can find nowadays. Just imagine working in the middle of the ocean for several months, not to mention the dangers you will be exposed to during your actual work sessions.
In order to be eligible for offshore marine employment, the first thing you'll have to get is proper training. The kind of training you will get will vary depending on what country you intend to seek employment from, but it will generally involve safety procedures and knowing what to do in an event of an emergency or imminent danger.
You can also expect offshore marine training to include general knowledge about the offshore industry, the correct use and maintenance of subsea equipment and tools, how to safely and efficiently put out fire, using emergency breathing apparatus, and basic/advanced survival skills in the marine environment. You may also be required to secure a certification before you can get employment.
You have to be aware that offshore marine jobs is not only physically demanding but it is also emotionally draining as well. Most amenities there such as toilets and showers are communal, and you have to deal with that as well.
