There are a lot of things to remember when you are learning to drive. Something many learners overlook is how to maintain their car. Simple maintenance checks can save you money in the future and keep your vehicle in a safe working condition. If you need reminding these healthy engine tips provided by Lincoln Park Auto Repair Company will refresh your memory.

During the practical test you should have been asked to describe how to check the engine oil level. If you are unsure or have forgotten how to do this then read on as low oil levels can cause serious damage. Luckily this is a really quick and easy process.

Start by running the engine to let the oil heat up. Driving for five minutes will accomplish this. Park the vehicle on a level surface to ensure the measurement is correct. Before opening the hood wait for a few minutes to let the engine cool down.

Take the dipstick from the oil reservoir and clean it with a rag. Notice the marks that show the minimum and maximum levels and replace the dipstick. Now take it out again and check where the oil marked the stick. If it is between the two marked levels then it is acceptable.

Something else that anyone can and should check is the coolant. This liquid is pumped around the engine to keep it cool. It is recommended to check the coolant twice a month and before any long journey. If there is not enough coolant overheating will occur which can cause serious damage.

This should also be performed on a cool engine. The coolant is found in a small transparent tank that has the maximum and minimum levels marked on the side. As you can see through it you can check this just by looking at it. As you can see these two healthy engine tips provided by Lincoln Park Auto Repair are very simple. Doing them regularly keeps your car running smoothly and can prevent costly repairs in the future.
