A Short, Smart Guide To Marketing With Email

by Stavros Georgiadis

Many times the subject of e-mail marketing is not interesting enough for people to pay attention. Knowing how to take advantage of e-mail marketing strategies can make it much easier to realize how it can give you a big advantage as you grow your business.

Your email should have a personal tone. Like all marketing, customers are more likely to sign up for those who add a personal touch. For example, if you know why they signed up to get emails from you, include that reason in your email.

Use A/B testing of your subject lines to test effectiveness. Choose an email and split the mailing list in half, sending each half an email with a different subject line. You can learn which subject wording is most influential in getting your customer base to open your messages.

You should always ask for permission before you add someone to your mailing list. Most people are inclined to ignore or delete messages from unknown senders and your efforts will be wasted. Sending emails to people who have not given you permission to do so may also violate the policies of your ISP.

Always get permission before contacting any customer via email. People generally see unwanted emails like spam and delete or ignore them without taking the time to read them. You could also violate your ISP's policies by sending mass emails to consumers who do not want to receive them.

In the end, the goal of digital marketing is to make a sale. Every email that is sent should entice the readers to want to buy a product or service. Announcing special offers, debuting new products, and revealing new information about existing products are just a few of the tactics you can use to build this momentum.

Avoid sending out important marketing messages too close to major holidays. Because people are not checking email as frequently around these times, your email is more likely to be ignored. There are, of course, exceptions. An example of such an exception might be a Black Friday special for 25% off an LED TV.

Minimize your use of graphics in your emails to customers. Graphics are block by some email programs, so if you have a lot in your email, your audience may not be able to see or read the whole email. Also, email programs may send image-heavy emails to your junk mail folder.

When you are going through the process of opting in, you should make it a point to get the names of your customers. That way, you'll be able to customize your emails so that they individually address each customer to make the experience personal. If your messages address readers by name, they are going to feel more individual than anonymous, which makes your messages stand above the fray of bulk email.

Your emails should contains calls to action. This tells your recipients directly in the email what they should do. Be sure that any links you have in your emails are easily found and explain how they are to be used. These sections can be repeated by just including them within the very top and bottom portions of your emails. If you desire to succeed in your business, you must have a great marketing plan.
