Farmers Produce Stand: What ItIs And How To Set One Up

by George Dodson

Whenever you travel by car, you probably often see a stand across the road. More often than not, you will find someone selling vegetables and fruits on this stands.

Those little farmer stands are very important in some communities especially rural ones. Fruits and vegetables are being sold in their freshest condition. If it is not consumed after a certain time it gets destroyed or spoiled. For that reason, farmers often put up these little stands so they can sell their excess produce to customers who happen to come along. The fruits or vegetables always taste much better here. Most of the time, they are fresh and are free of pesticides and other contaminants.

How can you set up your very own farmer stand if you are growing your own crops?

The first thing you want to consider is location. Would you like to set up your stand at the local farmers market? If you want to put it up at the local market then you will need to consider a small fee. In addition you will be in competition with a large group of other farmers probably selling the same items that you are. You can also choose to set it up at the end of the road or driveway. People driving by can see your stand or the sign pointing to it. In a parking space, people will be able to check out what you have to offer whenever they are parked.

What do you want to sell? What are the produce commonly bought by travelers? The answer is probably that they go by such things as tomatoes, corn, jalapenos, and fruits such as apples, oranges, and cantaloupe or other types of melons. There is a great probability that these choices will be given the most attention from buyers.

When do you want to run your farm stand? When would be the best day of the week to set up your farm stand? Is it in the evening or the morning? You'll probably want to do some testing here. You can simply ask competitions for tips or advise. If not, you can simply browse the net about this topic. Surely there are other farmers who have run farm stands who had that information.

How much would you charge for your goods or merchandise? Probably the best advice is to keep prices low. A good example is selling a produce good for as cheap as half or a quarter of a dollar. You can also sell by the box or carton depending on the produce your advertising.

You can start off with a little amount of produce goods to sell and monitor how it will be selling. You will then be able to come up with a suitable list of fruits and vegetables that people would love to buy. With this, you won't have to spend much and you'll be sure to provide for your clients.
